Talklation's core real-time speech recognition and translation can work without an internet connection after the required system language resources are available on a supported device. AI summaries, cloud sync, and purchase verification are separate online features, so preparing the translation languages does not make every part of the app offline.
On iPhone and iPad, Talklation uses Apple's system translation capabilities and checks that the chosen source and target languages are installed before starting. Apple's Translation framework processes TranslationSession content on the device and can prepare language downloads, but availability still depends on the device, operating-system version, and language pair.
On Android, Talklation checks the platform's on-device speech recognition and TranslationManager capabilities. Android reports whether a language pair is already on the device, available to download, still downloading, or unavailable. Talklation uses those capability states instead of promising a fixed language list that might not match a particular phone.
Prepare languages while you still have a stable connection: open Talklation's language picker, select the source and target languages, and use the preparation action if the app says resources are missing. Wait for the ready state before beginning a long conversation, because an incomplete system download cannot be repaired after you have already gone offline.
Before travel, run a short test in each direction. Speak one sentence, confirm that recognized text and the translation appear, and play the translated speech if you plan to use audio. This quick check verifies the actual phone and language pair you will carry rather than relying on a generic compatibility list.
If a language does not appear or a pair is marked unavailable, update the operating system and check the phone's system language resources. Talklation intentionally fails closed when the platform cannot provide both on-device speech recognition and translation for the selected source language.
